On The Road to Eugene With Brewvana and The New School - Part One

Angel the Brewvana Tour Bus

Ezra Johnson-Greenough of The New School
It was a cold wet Saturday, as a thirteen beer loving individuals all "HOPPED" on a bus in support of Brewvana Brewery Tours and The New School VIP trip to Eugene.  The trip left shortly after eleven, and before we knew it we were on the way to for a day of fun and adventure.

Ninkasi

Personal tour hosted by Jamie Floyd
The Eugene Brewvana Crew
Our first stop of the day was at Ninkasi, for a tour led by no other than brewmaster Jamie Floyd.  I've been on several brewery tours, but this was one the best ones I've been privileged to attend. It was great to learn the history of Ninkasi, and see the growth of it over the years. As always with Brewvana's tour you are truly given the VIP treatment.

Oakshire tasting room

Private tour with Jeff Althouse of Oakshire
The second stop was with the fine people of Oakshire Brewing. Another great tour lead by Oakshire co-founder Jeff Althouse. One of the true treats of this visit was enjoying a Duck Billed Platypus a Belgian Rye CDA we have yet to see in Portland.  Also we were tortured with views of Hellshire II, not available for purchase until 11/12 at the Oakshire tasting room. Hopefully some will find it's way to PDX, and into my cellar.

Homebrewers
National Learn How to Homebrew Day was the same day as this trip. Oakshire provided space for a local homebrew group to come educate people in the fine art of crafting their own beer. Kudos to Oakshire for hosting community education.

Due to the epic nature of this tour, tune in tomorrow for the rest of the story...
